GALLERY: Mercedes celebrates titles at Brackley and Brixworth

Three days after Lewis Hamiton’s coronation in Austin, the Mercedes AMG F1 family came together for a day of celebration, with special events taking place in Brackley and at Brixworth.

The Silver Arrows squad’s sixth consecutive title was first commemorated at Mercedes’ HPP Brixworth factory where Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were on hand to honor those who deliver the reliability and power on race weekends.

In the afternoon, the pair rejoiced in Brackley with the team responsible for designing and developing the championship-winning W10.

“It’s very difficult to find the right words to express my gratitude to all of you for continuing to push every year – it’s thanks to you that I’ve been living my dream, that I’ve been able to succeed and reach this incredible achievement in my life,” Hamilton told his Mercedes family members.

“I’m incredibly proud to be part of this group and I can’t thank you enough for everything that you’ve done. I never in a million years thought I’d get to six.

“I grew up watching Formula One and I always wanted to do something like Ayrton. If I could get to Formula One, that’d be great; if I could get three titles, that’d be incredible. And now we’ve doubled that – it’s truly unbelievable.

“I love to see how motivated you all are, that really spurs me on, and I hope you’ve seen some of that in my driving.

“We must keep pushing because I know we have more to do – more championships to win, more races to win – and I truly believe that we can do that. A big, big thank you to you all!”

Valtteri Bottas also paid tribute to his Silver Arrows colleagues, generating a roar of laughs when he opened up his statement with a variation of his now famous “To whom it may concern, f..k you!”.

“To whom it may concern: Thank you!” said the Finn.

“I have no words to describe how proud I am to be part of this amazing team and how grateful I am for the work that every single one of you has done to make this achievement possible – I can only imagine the workload, the commitment and all the sacrifices you’ve made to make this happen, so thank you very much!

“It’s amazing to be part of the team that clinched the constructors’ title. Let me repeat something I said last year when I was standing here: Let’s do it all again next year, I know we can do it! Huge congratulations to Lewis as well for winning the drivers’ championship this year – next year it won’t be that easy…”

Buemi's run to the hills with Red Bull

While Red Bull’s race crews are enjoying some well-deserved down time, its show car squad was out in full force in Switzerland last weekend, at the foot of the Jura Mountains.

Red Bull’s latest show run took place at Grenchen Airport, just north of Bern, and involved two days of adrenaline-fueled, shrieking action with Sebastian Buemi, a championship-winning 2012 RB8 and various machinery from the energy drink’s high octane stable.

Over 36,000 spectators turned up for the event that saw Buemi, on home ground, complete a series of flat-out runs on the airstrip interspersed with sessions of donuts and burnouts, much to the crowd’s delight.

“It’s a special event,” Sébastien said afterwards.

“It’s cool for the fans, but also for the drivers, mainly because you get to do whatever you want with the car on a big airfield like this! It’s an amazing feeling, especially because we’re in Switzerland and I don’t get too many opportunities to drive in front of my home crowd. So, yeah, a very special day.”

Check out our gallery of pictures from Buemi’s proper day of trashing in Switzerland.
