Formula 1 to live-stream Mexican GP weekend on Twitch

Formula 1 will stream next weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix live on Twitch, the leading streaming platform for gamers that is owned by Amazon.

All sessions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will be shown live and free on twitch.TV and Twitch’s mobile app in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

In addition to streaming the track action in Mexico City, interactivity and gaming elements will be added to the broadcast, including the possibility for fans to predict the performance of drivers during 10-minute segments of next Sunday’s race.

“Twitch has incredible reach, a unique creative spin on sports media coverage and an engaged digital audience; they are a perfect partner for us to be working with on this project,” said Frank Arthofer, director of digital and licensing for F1.

For now, Formula 1’s deal with Twitch only includes the Mexican Grand Prix, but the streaming experience could be renewed in the future depending on its success and fans’ engagement.

Twitch is primarily known for its core focus on video games, but the company is branching out and increased its investments in sports and music content.
